C’mon down to the 600s!

It seems that once a year or so, the professional conversation turns to Dewey; specifically the Dewey Decimal System.  Deweys dead!, they cry.  Its an antiquated system.  Folks cant use it.

I am here to say that I embrace Dewey, my students are engaged learning the system and at the end of it all, they end up teaching other students and parents how it works.

The DDC is a great way to get kids thinking about systems.  By the time my students reach 3rd and 4th grade when I explicitly teach the system, they have heard me say Follow me over to the 636syoull find your dog books there, or Come over to the 398.2sthe folktales live there hundreds of times, so the seed is planted.  Th

The race is on: Students compete with efficient car technology

PULLMAN, Wash. – Experiential, hands-on learning is the goal of the Washington State University Electric Vehicle Team, one of 30 clubs in the College of Engineering and Architecture. Mentored by Kirk Reinkens, students design and build one-person vehicles powered by AC electrical systems. Their skills are tested in nationally recognized Electrathons, where drivers compete to see how fast and far their cars can go in an hour.

Spelling errors in state education presentation

When interim Maryland State School Superintendent Bernard J. Sadusky made a presentation before two House of Delegates committee Friday, he spelled out certain principles for flexibility under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

Alas, the folks at the Maryland State Department of Education showed a certain flexibility in spelling  “principle” as well. Time for a trip to the principal’s office?

DMU alum Dr. William Anderson, who will be on campus tomorrow to speak about his experiences, actually worked alongside the man we honor today. .
