Bentley Splits on Day 2 of Bentley Invitational; All-Tourney Honors for Farah & Kraft

WALTHAM, Mass. — Bentley University seniors Maitlyn Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary’s Hall) and Andrea Farah (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) both earned All-Tournament honors as the Bentley Invitational volleyball tournament concluded Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the tournament, split its two matches on Saturday. The Falcons cruised to a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in their first match of the day and saw their three-match winning streak halted with a 3-1 loss to the University of New Haven in their final tournament match.

There were no ties and no lead changes throughout the Holy Family match with the scores 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12.

#20 Carson-Newman Rallies in 4th for 35-28 Win over Bentley; Johnson Throws for 4 Scores

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Fourth-quarter touchdowns by sophomore Brendan Baker (Miami, Fla.) and junior Nate Inman (Fitzgerald, Ga.), and a second-half shutout by the Eagle defense, propelled Carson-Newman College, the 20th-ranked team in Division II, to a come-from-behind 35-28 win over Bentley University in non-conference college football Thursday night at steamy Burke-Tarr Stadium.

Spoiled by the loss was an impressive season-opening performance by Bentley senior quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale, Mass./Milford HS), who threw for four touchdowns, two apiece to seniors John Malone (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) and Wade Critides (Wayland, Mass./Wayland HS).

Bentley, down 21-14 in the second quarter, finished the opening half strong with two scoring strikes from Johnson (his third and fourth of the half)  to Critides sending the visitors into the halftime break up seven, 28-21. T

VC garage sale today

Attention retro enthusiasts. The Ventura College athletic department will sell old uniforms and practice gear from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today on the patio adjacent to the VC Sportsplex.

Items from nearly every VC program are available from 1980s to present, including basketball uniforms and warmups going back to the Phil Mathews era, football uniforms going back to the Phil Passno era and baseball uniforms going back to the Gary Anglin era.

“We’ve never been given this chance before,” said Ventura equipment manager Peder Nielsen. “There’s some really nice stuff… It’s all been in storage.”

The garage sale will continue into the football scrimmage this evening.
