Orange boys and girls track teams finish second at Mayfield Invitational
The Orange track team had a good time at the Mayfield Invitational as the Lion boys and girls each finished second on Friday at Mayfield High School.
The Orange girls had 98 team points and were right behind champion Chardon, which had 106 points. Host Mayfield was third with 91 and Hathaway Brown was seventh with 29.
For the boys, the Lions had 80 as Chardon won the meet with 97. The Wildcats were fifth with 70 and University School was eighth with 28.
Ayana Cheston of Orange won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.9 while teammate Brianna Johnson won the 100 in 12.5. Fellow Lion Amber Young was third in the 100 in 12.9.
The Lions Ayana Hodges was second in the 400 in 1:00.9.
In the 1,600 Stephanie Buda of Mayfield was third in 5:34.9 with teammate Waed Eid in fourth in 5:35.9. The Blazers Lauren Casarona was fifth in 5:43.2.
Haley Jacobson of the Wildcats was the runner up in the 3,200 with a time of 12:05.7.
Another Wildcat, Jacquee Herron, was fourth in the discus with a throw of 111 feet, 2 inches.
In the long jump, Adah Zhang of Orange was first with a leap of 15-6 with Shannon Zajec of Mayfield tied in second at 15-3 with teammate Megan Templin.
In relay action, the Wildcats won the distance medley relay in 12:37.0, which broke a meet record set in 2009 also by Mayfield. Running for Mayfield was Deanna Godby, Jaquelyn Anderson, Buda and Marie Lorentz. HB was third in 13:19.6 with Jennifer Huang, Emily Sisel, Caitlin Clapacs and Casarona running.
The Wildcats were also third in the 3,200 relay with Eid, Courtney Shultz, Marissa Woods and Teresa Trivisonno earning a time of 10:17.4.
The Lions won the 400 relay with a time of 50.9 using Johnson, Rachael Garson, Young and Mollie Gallagher.
In the sprint medley relay, Orange was the best again as Johnson, Cheston, Young and Garson had a time of 1:54.0. Mayfield was third in 1:56.8 with Krystianna Collins, Zajec, Samantha Bishop and Rachel Rus competing.
In the 400 relay, the Lions were first in 1:07.3 with Zhang, Joy Wilson, Cheston and Young running.
Mayfield was third in the 1,600 relay with Lorentz, Anderson, Rus and Collins earning a time of 4:12.2 with Orange in fourth with Hodges, Katelyn King, Zhang and Shamable Crawford earning a time of 4:17.3.
For the boys, Matt Jones of Orange won the 100 with a time of 11.0.
In the 400, the Lions Cameron Grays was first in 51.8 with Harry Morganstern of Mayfield in third in 52.4 and Oranges Reni Solaru in fourth in 54.5.
In the 3,200, Kyle Rendlesham of Mayfield was the runner up in 10:12.7.
Nate Terhune of Orange was second in the shot put with a throw of 48-5 with Mayfields Corey Blackwell in fourth at 43-11.
Will Carter of Orange was the best in the long jump with his distance of 20-6.
Mayfields distance medley relay team of Amari Williams, Kris Martin, Rendlesham and Chris Fortuna was second in 11:08.3.
US won the 3,200 relay with Repton Salisbury, Stephen Staats, Will Moore and Pat Sheil earning a time of 8:32.3.
Oranges 440 shuttle hurdle relay team of Josh Harris, Malcolm Harris, Levente Berry and Lamar Vason were first in 1:02.7.
Mayfield was second in the 1,600 relay in 3:35.4 with Williams, Fortuna, Drazen Markovic and Morganstern competing. Orange was third in 3:35.6 with Matt Clinkscale, Jones, Carter and Grays running.
