He said he is ready “to go arm-in-arm with his fellow Republicans to Columbus.”
He plans to cut state government spending, and believes that goal will be accomplished with the new HouseRepublican majority.
According to preliminary results, Grendell won 30,445 votes to Democratic candidate Mary Briggs, 51, of Burton, with 10,396 votes.
Constitution party candidate Bob Cannon, 62, of Burton, trailed with 2,262 votes, and Marc Saric, 41, also of Chester, had 1,220 votes.
The 98th district seat was formerly held by Matt Dolan who moved to Cuyahoga County to run for county executive.
Reached by phone Tuesday night, Grendell was asked who would likely take his place in the state Senate.
“That will be discussed in meetings beginning tomorrow,” he said.
When pressed further, Grendell said he would love for his wife, former state Representative, Diane Grendell to complete his term, which expires in 2012.
