UCD to share $2.4M grant to promote neuroscience diversity
Diego Restrepo and Sondra Bland, professors at the University of Colorado Denver, will share a $2,397,208 federal grant with a New Mexico academic aimed at promoting diversity in neuroscience, the UC Denver School of Medicine announced Friday.
The grant from the National Institutes of Health will help Restrepo, Bland and Elba Serrano of New Mexico State University Las Cruces “prepare students for neuroscience careers who are minorities or have disabilities,” the school said.
“This grant is very important because the number of disabled and minority Ph.D. students is small in general and those in neuroscience even smaller,” Restrepo, professor of cell and developmental biology and co-director of the Aurora-based School of Medicine’s Center for NeuroScience, said in a statement.
Bland is an assistant professor of psychology at UC Denver’s downtown Denver campus.
