Nominations needed
The list returns Monday.
It’s again time to recognize the achievements of 10 Waterloo Region athletes for doing something special the previous week.
I’ll be checking D8 and WCSSAA results for candidates but your help would be appreciated. If teachers, students or parents want to mention a player that had a big game or someone who had an outstanding individual results, let me know at mbryson@therecord.com and I’ll be happy to give it consideration.
Simply tell me the student’s name, school, grade and what they did and there’s a very good chance I’ll get it in. Feel free to mention whether the student plays other sports.
The names of outstanding volleyball players are especially welcome as it’s tough to recognize great efforts without actually being there.

The second race of the WCSSAA-D8 cross-country season goes today at the University of Waterloo.
Convener Ian Clancy of Cameron Heights tells me that participation levels are the highest they’ve been in more than 20 years.
Cameron Heights, SJAM, Bluevale and WCI are expected to slug it out for the WCSSAA crown while St. Mary’s is the team to beat in D8.

A good turnout at Jacob Hespeler on Thursday night to see the Bluevale Knights score a 17-3 win over the host Hawks.
The game was closer than the score would indicate but the Knights looked good on both sides of the ball.
A bigger test awaits. Bluevale travels to Resurrection on Wednesday in a game that will show just how good the Knights actually are.
