Weather prompts cancellations, moves

The forecast for a rainy weekend has prompted WCSSAA to cancel boys and girls soccer games scheduled for next Tuesday, while games scheduled for Thursday are now tentative.

All Waterloo Region District School Board fields will remain closed until further notice.

The RIM Park turf fields are closed next week for maintenace.

Boys and girls rugby schedules are also affected, as all games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday will be moved to University Stadium. A schedule will follow shortly, upon confirmation of referee availability.

Games scheduled for next Thursday and Friday are now listed as tentative. University Stadium is not available on those days.

On a brighter and much lighter note, its not every day you see a “soccer parent” cheering against his child, but thats kind of, sort of what happened during Tuesdays District 8 girls soccer game between St. Marys and Monsignor Doyle.

Kevin Johnson has been recruited to help coach the Mustangs, a move that makes sense because he coaches three of the girls on his Cambridge U-16 team.

Thing is, Johnsons daughter Keziah is a key player for the Eagles.

Lets just say it made for a few lighthearted moments.

Its back.

WCSSAA has released schedules for bothboysand girls slo-pitch.

The District 8 boys soccer schedule opened with a back-and-forth affair at St. David.

Adam Zrebiec scored in the games dying moments to lead the Resurrection Phoenix to a 2-1 win over the St. David Celtics.

Daniel Campbell also scored for the Phoenix, while Mexican exchange student Julio Roman scored a dynamite goal for the Celtics to tie the game in the second half.
