Welcome back
Can the Resurrection Phoenix three-peat as Waterloo County senior boys football champions?
Can the St. John’s-Kilmarnock Eagles win their fifth straight Ontario field hockey championship?
Which teams will emerge as champions in the District 8 and Waterloo County senior girls basketball circuits?
What about senior boys volleyball? Can the Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders find the kind of magic that took the squad to a silver-medal finish at the Ontario championship tournament in 2009? And how about the Woodland Christian Cavaliers? Can they repeat as D8 champions?
The answers to these questions and many more will begin to unfold in the weeks and months ahead as students and teachers gear up for another season of high school athletics.
Schedules for both local leagues have yet to be posted, so I’ll keep on top of that and let you know when they are available.

Features for the fall season will include the weekly list of 10 athletes who had outstanding performances the previous week, a feature that proved to be popular last season.
I also plan on posting the odd poll for people to vote on.
And, as usual, I’m always open to suggestions or ideas.
It’s an exciting time of the year and I can’t wait for the games to begin.

A belated congratulations to the Waterloo U-17A team that recently won the Ontario Youth Soccer League championship for Level 3 girls.
The talented squad has a roster that features a number of high school players, including Megan Longpre, Meg Scully, Lana Pfaff and Emma Rowe of KCI, Molly Slater of Cameron Heights, Amanda Allan of Forest Heights, Melissa Buckle of SJAM and Ksenija Elez of Grand River to name a few.
This league championship elevates the to the top-level YSL Provincial league for the 2011 season.
