Nate Hunt to lead Hawken School baseball team next season

The Hawken School baseball team had its first losing season under eighth-year coach Aaron Brandt, but the Hawks are optimistic another winning run will start next year.

Hawken finished the year at 8-14 and 3-7 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Metro Division.

The Hawks had just four seniors on the team and 14 of the 19 varsity players were in their first year with the varsity club. Included in that were seven sophomores seeing their first varsity action.

The seniors who are graduating are right fielder Kyle Hoffman, center fielder Blake Parker, infielder Zach Hanson and infielder Alex Kowit.

Great start to season

What a great start to the season.

Just one day into the WCSSAA senior boys soccer schedule and three squads have already identified themselves as legitimate contenders for the Premier League title.

A fourth might also have what it takes.

Eastwood, Grand River and Cameron Heights made statements on Wednesday with victories on the opening day of the season, while Waterloo Collegiate looks to be a threat despite falling 4-2 to Cameron Heights.

The gifted defender recently parted ways with the Toronto FC Academy but has yet to receive the go-ahead to play with the Rebels.

Camerons opening-day victory comes less than a week after winning the Trojan Cup tournament, so the Gaels appear to be the real deal.
