Hilarious College Book List

By David Replogle

Reading outside of class can be a huge, well, you know effort. But you can still read for pleasure without having it be so, you know unpleasant. There are tons of great books out there to read in your four years, but I’ve narrowed that list down a little bit to just, you know the funny stuff.

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris Hands down, one of the funniest books of all time. It’s a compilation of short stories from a top-notch satirist that will teach you about your future, your past and your life as an American. And it’ll make you more cynical than a legless cat-lady with a drinking problem.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max Speaking of drinking problems. This is a roundup of hilarious stories from one guy with a penchant for hooking up with co-eds. OK, so maybe this is more of a guy’s read. Just maybe. But that doesn’t make it any less gut-busting.

Born Standing Up by Steve Martin Martin’s book is a wild and crazy retrospective about his comedic influences and early days of standup. It also documents his transition into movie stardom and his life after the glory days. A great read for the kid in all of us.

The CollegeHumor Guide to College by the CollegeHumor Staff This consummate book for college kids touts advice “from instant messaging to dating, from tailgating to studying.” Basically, it’s a whole bunch of awesomeness wrapped up in 400 pages. Well worth the buy.

Anything written by Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert Stewart has a few classics, including the recently released Earth: A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race and the oft-forgotten Naked Pictures of Famous People (hilarious standup material in book form). Colbert’s 2007 effort I Am America (And So Can You!) is still worth reading if you haven’t had the chance to yet.
